Overview This is an exclusive and all inclusive week in Chianti, limited to just ten participants. We will be staying in a private villa, located in the stunning and breathtaking scenery of Tuscany's country-side. We will experience out-of-the ordinary day trips and excursions that will give you an insider's perspective not typically found any other way. We will visit beautiful hilltop villages, wineries, farmers and local artisans and sample their products. You will be fully immersed in Tuscany's county life. We will participate in a gentle hike among the villages of Chianti, only to be refreshed with a stop at a local winery for a light lunch and sample of their wines. On a different day, we will visit a honey farm, and learn all about honey and food pairing. A bread workshop led by a local "panaio" (bread baker) is sure to be a learning and tasty experience! And anyone watching their carb intake is warned - a visit to an artisanal pasta producer with lunch following is also planned for the week! This adventure is aimed specifically at participants who wish to really experience genuine life like a local Tuscan, if only for a week.
Day 1 Afternoon: After a group pick-up, we will arrive in the afternoon and settle in our private Chianti villa! Unpack, relax on the premises and take in the beauty that is around us. Take a dip in the inground swimming pool or a walk in the garden. Ward off jet-lag by walking around, see the sites and start enjoying your adventure. We will meet our hosts, get to know our fellow travelers and enjoy the nearby sites before heading over for our first meal together.
Evening: For our first dinner together, we will experience homemade pizza at a local agriturismo. Learn about the pizza making process and enjoy a glass of wine, or two, before heading back to our home to rest and prepare for the next day.
Day 2 Morning: On our second day, we will visit the small town on Impruneta, a small, local town known for its Terracotta (clay) artistry. This town is world famous for its particularly strong clay, among other things. We will visit a fascinating workshop (furnace), and see the process of how clay is shaped and molded into beautiful pots, jars, vases and statues.
Afternoon: Our lunch today will be in a unique olive oil farm! After a short lesson on the oil production process, we will be brought back to the kitchen for what promises to be a most memorable lunch experience! We will cook together with our hosts and enjoy our efforts right on the farm.
Evening: After some time for relaxation from our day's excursions, we will enjoy a light organic dinner at a nearby restaurant.
Day 3 Morning: Today, we're headed near Florence to visit an artisanal pasta producer. Learn all about this culinary icon, how the artisanal version is different from the mass-produced one you find on store shelves and get tips on what shapes go best with various condiments. A delicious pasta lunch on the premises follows.
Afternoon: Next, we're headed to the San Frediano district in Florence. We will enjoy a walk in the beautiful streets, visit cafes and local shops and get the chance to stop in for some foodie gifts. Our final stop will be the world-famous Ponte Vecchio.
Evening: Dinner tonight will be at the villa and it's sure to be memorable. Be prepared to enjoy Florentine steak under the Tuscan stars!
Day 4 Morning: It's time to celebrate two of San Gimignano's main culinary stars: Saffron and Varnaccia wine. Grab an apron and roll up your sleeves as we work for our meal today with our hands-on cooking course. First, we head over and visit a boutique wine producer of organic Vernaccia San Gimignano, the most famous of Tuscany's white wines, with a DOCG certification. After a guided tour of the beautiful winery, we will be preparing a memorable lunch utilizing the two star ingredients, wine and saffron! We will enjoy our efforts right on the premises.
Afternoon: During the afternoon, we're walking off our lunch in the beautiful streets of San Gimignano. Enjoy free time on your own to walk about the city, stop in the shops for some gifts or perhaps head over to Dondoli - known as "the world's best gelateria."
Evening: Plenty of time to relax by the pool before heading over to a local restaurant for dinner.
Day 5 Morning: If you have a sweet tooth, you'll enjoy this morning's activity! Today we visit an organic honey producer and see how the Tuscan bees produce their sweet elixir! We'll get an insider's look at the inner workings of the bees before indulging in a delicious lunch that focuses on honey and its best food pairings!
Afternoon: We will have time to relax on our own this afternoon and enjoy the peaceful surroundings of our home. Take a swim in the pool or walk in the gardens. Enjoy the sights, sounds and scenery before preparing for our evening's activities.
Evening: If you love good-quality and artisanal breads, than you will love tonight's culinary workshop! Led by a local "panaio" (bread expert), tonight's workshop will focus on the different kinds of breads, flours and ancient grains. After a learning demonstration, we will enjoy a feast, that will, of course, include lots of specialties based on bread.
Day 6 Morning: Today, grab your sneakers and prepare for a gentle hike among Chianti's picturesque villages. This is a gentle walk and we will have several refreshing stops along the way that will include delicious samplings of local food and wine. For lunch, we will visit one of Chianti's most historic wineries of Chianti Classico. After a private tour of the estate, we will enjoy a bountiful lunch on the property.
Afternoon: After lunch, we will visit an artisan shop unlike any other. Using only wood from local olive trees as his medium, we will visit a wood-turning workshop and watch Giorgio, a local artisan, create all sorts of beautiful bowls, cutting boards and what ever else you can think of to adorn your kitchen and home. Be inspired to get crafty after this visit!
Evening: Dinner at home tonight will be an amazing experience! Polenta all' abruzzese.
Day 7 Morning: Our week in Chianti is sadly winding down, but before we leave the serene surroundings of Chianti, we're headed in the kitchen for a hands-on, multi-course culinary lesson like none other. Led by a local Slow Food chef and utilizing only the freshest and best ingredients available, we will prepare a feast, to be enjoyed on a beautifully decorated table. Today is going to be memorable!
Afternoon: Considered one of the most beautiful villages in Italy, we're headed to Montefioralle to walk off our lunch extravaganza. After our walk, we'll stop in an organic goat cheese farm for sampling as well as purchase some cheeses for our evening's meal.
Evening: A celebration farewell dinner sampling many of Tuscany's specialties is on the menu this evening and it's sure to be memorable.
Day 8: Morning: After breakfast at the villa, we say our good-byes and reflect on the beautiful week we just experienced. Group airport transportation will be provided.
